Resident. Common in Britain as far north as the
Caledonian Canal.

Just a few records, most recently from the east of the county, probably overlooked.

Confusion species
Many species of Stigmella are similar. A good way of separating them is
to examine the type of leaf-mine in the foodplant.

Foodplant
Hazel and hornbeam.
Lifestage data
Leaf miner. Eggs are laid on underside of the leaf. Larva forms a very
narrow mine which gradually widens. (Mines of some species are similar,
